The band that brought hits that turned ballads into secondary anthems for lovefilled situations serenades us this Saturday, July 26, at the Araneta Coliseum. MTV Philippines and co-presenter MCA Music proudly bring Jason Wade, Rick Woolstenhulme Jr., and Bryce Soderbergthe-the talented threesome of Lifehouse- for a one-night concert at the Big Dome.
Reminisce with songs that not only captured top spots in charts all across the globe but the hearts of many as well. Sway along with “Hanging by a moment”, “You and me”, “Sick cycle carousel”, “Whatever it takes”, “Spin”, “Breathing”, and “First Time,” among others.
From their debut album No Name Face that contained the single “Hanging by a moment” to their latest album Who We Are that contains the new single “Broken,” this band from Malibu, California, has reached heights father than any of them ever imagined.
Lifehouse has been a resident band in popular TV shows that require moos enhancing musical scores. This includes the Superman TV series Smallville that effectively utilized the song “Everything.” Another smash hit that is a TV show favorite is the song “Broken,” which is part of their latest album titled Who We Are. This songs has been used in episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Criminal Minds, and The Hills.
Much of the appeal of the work of Lifehouse comes not only from the music but the genius collaboration of heartfelt words laid down by the group’s lead vocals, Jason Wade. In a pervious interview, this songwriter described his take on composing songs:
“A while back, I had a falling-out with someone I was really close to. I went through a hard time dealing with that, picking up the pieces. I’m not the kind of person who wants to sit down and have a long conversation about my feelings. That stuff tends to get worked out in the songs”
Jason gets his influence and inspiration from one of the biggest names in the music industry. He states in another pervious interview. “I grew up not really listening to much music but my mom turned me on to the Beatles, and they changed my life. I became obsessed with them. How can you not be? They’re the best of the best.”
Delving deeper into the pop pantheon, he discovered the works of Todd Rundgren, Badfinger, the Raspberries and other masters of the form.
Lifehouse has indeed been on a wild journey filled with mostly success and little bumps on the road with the change in band members and the unavoidable comparisons having to exceed expectations of many. How does a breakthrough act like Lifehouse view this journey? They not only compare it to the success of the music they offer but their own over-all view on life. As Jason would say, “It’s hard to move on from a certain place in your life, but it’s the struggle to do it that’s gets you where you need to go.”
Indeed, the greatest feat along this frequently rocky path is to stand, climb, fall and get back up again.
There is no better way to get a glimpse of what Lifehouse has to offer than to get the collection of songs that speaks of utmost emotion and understanding.

The LIFEHOUSE Philippine tour concert jump-started at 9pm. As soon as the lights were out, everyone on the Patron VIP seats rushed towards the stage. Who says anything about reserved seating? It’s a rock concert! What do you expect? Barely breathing in my spot, I was at peace with my own little world. One by one, Rick, Ben, Jason & Bryce graced the stage. LIFEHOUSE electrified the Big Dome with uplifting guitar strums and drum beats of MAKE ME OVER, back to back with their 2003 massive hit, SPIN. But the crowd mellowed down as Jason’s aesthetically intones the melodic SIMON, leaving us in deep awe and admiration. Who could ever forget the single that introduced them to mainstream stardom? With hands clapping and crowd chanting, HANGING BY A MOMENT undeniably kept us on our toes. Putting a distinct twist on their performance, these musically talented artists experimented on a few songs. Being aware that BLIND was a Filipino favorite, the band played it again after three years. Wade’s solo act came in first. His emotionally charged voice and suave guitar accompaniment filled the stadium with warmth. And on its second verse, the collision of Carey’s lingering guitar tones and Woolstenhume’s throbbing drums formed the ensemble. While Soderberg stole the limelight when he sang the vocals for BRIDGES, keeping us pumped up for more. The band eventually serenaded the audience with their most awaited love song, YOU AND ME. So still were the people. Next thing I know, every mobile was flipped out to capture this moment of surreality. Uttering these sweet words, it has become the national anthem for the hopeless and hopeful romantics. LIFEHOUSE captivated the night with Jason’s current favorite, BROKEN. His deep, compelling, and core wrenching voice has definitely left us mesmerized. With a blink of an eye, gone was the 90-minute musical production. As a whole, LIFEHOUSE ignited the night with a fusion of soft, rich tones and heart pounding hits.<div>
</div><div>To be a part of the LIFEHOUSE experience was way beyond ordinary. It has been a spontaneous, embarrassing, emotionally stressful but fun ride. Joining radio contests for free tickets, begging my dad/boss of an early leave from work, lone driving to MOA for autographed CD signing, and beating my brains out for an up close and personal encounter with the band, need I say more? Along came the meet and greet privilege pass presented by NO CURFEW watch store. It was actually my brother’s other half who reassured me about my final verdict. “Regardless of the pricey GANT watch, wouldn’t it be priceless meeting the band itself?” she temptingly teases. Being the fan that I am, I finally gave in to the desires of my heart. What the heck, it’s now or never! Alas, that meant a year long tightening of the belt for me. But that’s another story!</div><div>
</div><div> When the concert came to a close, we were instructed to gather at the right side of the stage. Alongside with local celebrities and musicians, we were all in anticipation to go back stage. I was enlisted in the first batch of the group. While waiting for the band members to get ready, the organizers oriented us on what to expect. We were strictly informed that right after posing pictures with the band, it’s sayonara for us. Nevertheless, that didn’t discourage me. It was a beautiful evening. Spoiling it with disappointment would be my loss. So stealing a moment from LIFEHOUSE, I just had to say what I needed to say. The freshened up performers entered the room with smiles on their faces. Singly and successively, we approached the band with excitement. I started of with Rick the drummer. And before I could say anything, he sincerely apologized for the sweaty feel. “No need for apologies,” I assured him. We were all perspiring profusely from the gig so it’s all good. Like any avid music admirer, I acknowledged their awesome performance. They surely brought back the thrilla in manila. Right beside Rick, stood the green-eyed vocalist. In the midst of thanking Jason and hoping for a repeat concert, the crewmen were pressuring us to hurry up. The very grateful Wade, promised that they’ll be back for sure. Going against the clock, I handed him a box of dried mangoes. Before I could explain it any further, the organizers meddled in between to cut the conversation. Well, I just wanted them to have something from the Philippines. Eating “Balut” (underaged chick) might have been a fear factor challenge, but these mangoes will certainly leave a sweet impression. That’s a shout out to animal lovers, Bryce, Rick & Ben! With no time to lose, the flashes began blinking with cameras clicking. From an average Joe, I felt like a one hit wonder artist with the Fab Four. What an amazing euphonic journey it has been. </div><div>
</div><div>May LIFEHOUSE remain the big defiers of stereotyped celebrities. Being simply the way they are... Down to earth musicians doing what they love most…And that is music! </div><div>
